Flying Log

This is Stan’s Flying Log covering his time at 355 Squadron, Salbani, and 159 Squadron, Digri. The original is leather-bound and largely in tact minus one or two pages which look suspiciously like they may have been used for roll-ups.

Stan’s first entry is on April 19th, 1944, and his last on October 28th, 1945. All of Stan’s crew were killed on August 3rd, 1945 and there is a faint entry in pencil to this effect on the last page of the log: “August the third my crew were forced down and all killed’

Flying Log - August the third

We know from the list in the back of the log that Stan served with several different Units, 7 Air Gunnery School, 1673 Heavy Conversion Unit, 355 Squadron and 159 Squadron. All of these units were based in India with the exception of 7 A.G.S. which appears to have been situated in Northern Ireland at the time Stan attended. [Clarification appreciated on this point!] Stan trained in Avro Ansons at the Air Gunnery School and then flew in the Consolidated B-24 Liberator
